Nike: Our First Coach

*I’ve always wanted to write a TV spot for Nike and I wrote these based on real experiences with my father during the Covid lockdown of 2020. He coached my brother and I tennis when we were young.

The world’s best athletes have access to the world’s best coaches. But for many, their first coach was their dad.

From teaching them the game to driving them to practice and shouting from the sidelines, their fathers played a part in shaping them into champions. But sometimes, they cross the line from coach to father, with a hug or a high-five when it matters most. Which is why, for these athletes, their fathers will always be their biggest fan, harshest critic and greatest teammate.

For Father’s Day, I imagined two Nike TV spots featuring tennis champions Naomi Osaka and Andre Agassi, both coached by their fathers from a young age, dedicating a few words to the men who were there long before the trophies.
